1. Words
  • Type one word in the search field at the top and click Search. A word can have several meanings: you get one card per meaning, with its definition at the top.
  • The star on a card earmarks it (to find it back); the cross hides that meaning when it is not the one you are after.
  • Words with a similar base (above the cards) are words and expressions that contain your word (dog: dog days, hotdog, …). Click a word to see its cards.

Each card has tabs, each a different way to look at the meaning:

=Equal: words with the same meaning
~Similar, related
≠Opposite
↑More generic (a dog is an animal)
↓More specific (an animal can be a dog)
⨀Names the whole (a wheel is part of a car)
⦁Names the parts (a car has wheels)
@Domains: the fields the meaning is used in
≫2nd orders: the opposites of the opposites found on the other tabs (second-order opposites)
⇅Up, then down: not filled yet, so always empty for now

A red tab is empty; a green tab contains opposites. Logged in, you can show the number of items on each tab (Settings).

2. Text

On the Text page, paste a reasonably clean text (no HTML; at most 75,100 characters, about the length of Alice in Wonderland) and click Process. You get:

  • Processed text: your text, with the colours.
  • Named entities: the names in the text (people, places, organisations, …), each once, sorted.
  • Reoccurring pairings of 2, 3 and 4 words: combinations that occur together more often than chance (collocations), which often show what a text is about.
3. The colours

Definitions on the cards, the processed text and the results of analyses use the same colours:

  • green: the word has opposites; hover over it to see them;
  • blue: the word is in the dictionary (click it for its cards);
  • red: the word is not in the dictionary (a name, a typo, a very rare word).

Each coloured section has three coloured dots next to its heading: click them to switch the colours of that section on or off. On analysis results the colours are off at first (your default can be changed under Settings); on the Text page they are on.

Your searches and the cards you earmark or hide are remembered for this browser session, not with an account.
